National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) is the only all India body of Professional Managers engaged in the profession of personnel management, industrial relations, labour welfare, training and HRD in the country. NIPM came into existence in March 1980 as a result of merger of two professional institutions, namely the Indian Institute of Personnel Management, established in 1948 and the National Institute of Labour Management established in 1950. With its National Office at Kolkata, NIPM has a total membership of more than 10,000 spread over 53 Chapters all over India.
NIPM is a non-profit making body devoted to the development of skill and expertise of the persons engaged into the management of human resources through regular lecture meetings, seminars, training courses, conferences and publications through its Chapters throughout India. Its Half-yearly journal ‘Personnel Today’ is subscribed by many Indian as well as foreign universities and libraries.
NIPM has been conducting academic programme conferring Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management (PGDPM) since 1978. In view of its emphasis on professional excellence and wide network throughout the country, the Govt. of India as well as almost all the States of the country look at NIPM as a body of experts in the vital area of Management of Human Resources.
The members of the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management (APFHRM) meet regularly to share ideas, perspectives and information relating to the practice of HR in the Asia Pacific region and their individual institutes. Below are the country reports for India.

The Annual National HR Conference & Exhibition is the major event of NIPM-India. The next major event of NIPM-India i.e. 37th National Conference (NATCON 2018) will be organised by NIPM-Pune Chapter on the theme “Managing Future of Work & Workplace” during September 28 & 29, 2018 at The Westin Hotel, Pune, Maharashtra, India. Delegates and Speakers from all over India and also from Sri Lanka, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Mauritius etc. will be participating in this conference. The Conference is considered as the biggest HR learning event in India.

Since 2008, NIPM-India is organizing the National Award for HR Best Practices along with the NIPM Annual National Conference & Exhibition. Most of the leading Public & Private Sectors throughout India had participated in this competition and presented their value based best HR Practices.
Besides the above, NIPM-India is regularly conferring Fellowship Awards to its members for their outstanding and meritorious contribution in the field of HR.
NIPM-India is also conferring Best Chapter Awards to the Chapters whose contribution has been marked remarkable in comparison to other Chapters in working for the cause of Human Resource Development throughout the year
NIPM-India is also regularly organizing the National Business Quiz on General Business Awareness with focus on HR issues amongst the Students of various B-Schools and Management Institutes specialization in HR all over India. NIPM is conferring the awards and certificates for National Business Quiz to the successful Students of various Management / B-School from all over India during the NIPM Annual National HR Conference since 2011.
National Institute of Personnel Management has been conferring the highest awards of NIPM i.e. NIPM Ratna Award since 2008, to eminent personalities in the rank of CMD/CEO in appreciation of their outstanding back ground and exceptional contribution in the field of Human Resource Management as well as in recognition of their achievements as an outstanding HR Leader and Visionary.
